City Council votes to make property owners responsible for service line

TAYLORVILLE — At Monday evening’s City Council meeting, a motion was passed that requires property owners to be respon- sible for the service line and connections, with the city being responsible for the sewer and main tap, and all extenuating circumstances to be take to the Street and Sewer Committee for determi- nation of responsibilty. This chang e will be made to Paragraph I. of Section 8-5-4 of Chapter 5, Title 8 of the Taylorville City Code.
The motion for reduced liquor license fees for gaming parlors failed. However, the motion to allow designated drive up facilities for the sale and delivery of alcoholic liquors in their original unopened containers passed 3-4. Alderman Jim Olive, Larry Budd, Kathy Driskell and Steve Dorchinez all voted no on this motion.
A motion to approve the Mayor’s appointment of Ben Robinson to Library Board and Ron McKavetz to the BDD Committee passed 7-0.
Mayor Barry honored Jack Brown, longtime emcee of the Memorial Day and Veterans Day parades, and Jim Smith, longtime director of the Muninicipal Band. Mayor Barry said, “I consider these two gentleman pillars of our community for their great service to our veterans and also our community.”
During the mayor updates, Mayor Bruce Barry said he gets numerous calls on side- walk replacement, tree removals, and road repairs. He then asked all aldermen to spend their ward money on those projects. Also, bids will soon be opened on East Main Cross Street.

TAYLORVILLE — Jack Brown retired from emceeing the Memorial Day and Veterans Day parade after many years of serv- ice. Jim Smith retired from being the director of the Muninicpal band after over 20 plus years of service. Mayor Bruce Barry honored the two at the City Council meeting Monday night.
