TAYLORVILLE — Taylorville Urgent Care is now offering the one shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine for people 18 years of age and older.
Dr. Paul Toofan, Taylorville Urgent Care, explained the possible risks and benefits of getting the vaccination. Dr. Toofan said, “ You have to weigh the risks versus the benefits. If you’re somebody who has some medical problems, you have to decide is it riskier to get the vac- cine or is it riskier to get COVID? We know what COVID does. It does target those particularly over age 70 years who have chronic medical problems like high blood pressure and diabetes. So if you’re one of those people and thinking about it, I say get the vaccine.”
Younger people may not have as much as risk after contracting COVID, however, they could pass it on to others so that is a factor to consider, Dr. Toofan said.
One of the less common side effects of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is bloodclotts in women under age 50 years. There have been reports of mild inflam- mation of the heart muscle occurring in younger people. More common side effects are pain or swelling at the injection site, fever, aches, and not feeling well in the next couple days after receiving the vac- cine.
Dr. Toofan would like members of the community to take advantage of this opportunity to receive the vaccine. He said, “More vaccinations means it less likelihood that other variants come through and get people sick. You’re pro- tecting other members of the community. It gets everybody back to normal again.”
No insurance is necessary for the vaccination. The vaccine is available Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. If those days do not work, you can contact Taylorville Urgent Care to schedule an appointment. If patients have concerns or questions they can contact Taylorville Urgent Care.
