SPRINGFIELD — Former members of Advisory Teams 58 and 73 will hold their biennial reunion at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on July 15 – 18, 2021.
Members of these two advisory teams served in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam in remote Chuong Thien Province. This province was the birthplace of the Viet Minh, the predecessor of the Viet Cong, and remained one of the least pacified provinces of Vietnam throughout the conflict.
The mission of the advisory effort in Vietnam was to assist Vietnamese military and civilian organizations in fighting Communist forces and establishing effective governance throughout the country. Military Assistance Command Vietnam or MACV was the headquarters for the advisory effort and was founded in 1964. The last advisors left Vietnam in 1973.
About Military Advisors of the Vietnam War:
This small group of vet- erans, now in their 70’s and 80’s, come from as far away as Massachusetts, Texas, and California. They will spend the weekend reestablishing old friendships, honoring team mates lost during the war, visiting the many Lincoln sites in the Springfield area, and taking a group photo at the Illinois Vietnam Memorial at Oak Ridge Cemetery. https://macvteams.org/t eam-73/
