Taylorville Council approves sub-leasing lake lots

TAYLORVILLE — The Taylorville City Council voted on a motion to prepare an ordinance amending the City Code to allow a one-time transfer of lots that are being subleased at Monday night’s meeting.
A one-time transfer of lots will require a transfer fee of $250 and a new security deposit of $300. The motion carried 6-1. Steve Dorchinez voted no.
An increase in salary of the Street and Sewer Superintendent Mike Mann was voted on. Alderman Steve Dorchinez suggested the motion be tabled to the Personnel Committee because raises are subject to review by the committee. Alderman Megan Bryant seconded the motion. The motion to table the matter failed 4-3 with Aldermen Chris Skultety, Jeremy Wilson, Doug Brown and Larry Budd voting no.
The motion for Superintendent Mike Mann to get an increase in salary passed 4-3. Alderman Bryant, Dorchinez and Jim Olive voted no. The increase will be about 5.7 percent. Motions to approve the liquor/gaming licenses for Cozy Grind and Abbi’s Place were both passed by a 5-2 vote. Aldermen Skultety and Dorchinez voted no.
The council voted on an ordinance for appropriations for the fiscal year commencing May 1, 2021 – April 30, 2022. The motion carried 8-0. Appropriations will be increased by $3.6 million with $1.6 million going into equipment op line; $1.6 million going to the infrastructure line; and $400,000 going to the contingency line.
Chris Cherry was awarded Youth of the Month. Cherry ran cross country and track for Taylorville High School. He has received numerous awards. He is the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 Taylorville High school Cross Country Most Valuable Runner and 2018, 2019 All State Cross Country. In 2018, he placed 25th in the state in cross country. In 2019, he placed 10th in state. He is the 2019 and 2020 Apollo Cross Country Champion and 2020 cross country Regional Champion. In 2021, he placed second in state in the 3200 meter run.
