SPRINGFIELD – L ynn Fleming of Taylorville is the recipient of the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence at Memorial Medical Center.
Fleming was nominated by a patient at Memorial Medical Center to receive the award. In the nomination form, the patient wrote, “As a nurse myself, I know the importance of Lynn’s role and just how special she is. She explained every, single thing that was going to happen to me in detail. I had complete trust in L ynn and felt I was in great hands with her caring for me.”
Fleming is a registered nurse in Special Procedures at Memorial Medical Center, a nonprofit hospital in Springfield. She graduated from Lincoln Land Community College and has worked at Memorial Medical Center for 14 years.
Fleming and her husband, Ron, have two adult children: Carly, a travel- ing cardiovascular ICU RN in Louisville, Kentucky; and Heath, a mechanical engineer in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
Fleming was recognized in front of her colleagues and hospital leaders. She received a certificate and a hand-carved sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch.”
The nonprofit DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 from complica- tions of idiopathic throm- bocytopenic purpura, an auto-immune disease. The care Barnes and his fami- ly received from nurses during his illness inspired this unique way of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
