DECATUR — The Macon County Conservation District will host a free Illinois Department of Natural Resources Hunter Safety Education Class at Rock Springs Nature Center. The class will meet for two days: Friday, August 20 from 6pm to 9pm and Saturday, August 21 from 8am to 4:30pm.
In this 10 hour class, students will gain an understanding of hunter ethics, rules, and equip- ment. There is no fee or age limit. However, students must attend both class days and pass a written test in order to receive their certificate. Must pre-register online by noon on August 19 at MaconCountyConservation. org..
Successful completion of this course fulfills the requirement that anyone born on or after January 1, 1980 must present a valid Hunter Education Certificate of Competency in order to be granted a hunting license. Once suc- cessfully completed, hunters are not required to retake the class.
Rock Springs Conservation Area is located on the southwestern edge of Decatur. To get to Rock Springs from Taylorville, go north on Route 48 and turn west onto Rock Springs Road. Watch for signs. Plenty of parking is available.
