TAYLORVILLE — The Taylorville Optimist Club held its regular meeting on Thursday, July 22, 2021, in the Community Room of the People’s Bank & Trust. President Ron Spears called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Pastor Steve Robinson with the morning prayer.
Guest speaker for the morning was Doug Cowell. Doug recently purchased the former Dana’s Book store. He will reopen as “Sydney L ynn’s Book Shop & Vinyl. As well as having an inventory of some 28,000 books on hand, it will also include a wide variety of old and new vinyl copies of music. Among his collection of books and vinyl are some real collector’s items of all vintages. The opening date is set for Friday, July 30th at 10:00 am at 109 W. Main Cross. Doug invites the public to stop in and browse the wide assortment of books and vinyl. Doug is also very happy to help the revitalization of our Taylorville square, and continue the presence of the Cowell name on a retail store in Taylorville.
Other items included the re-cap of the Fourth of July fireworks at Lake Taylorville. Jim Adcock was happy to report that it was another successful and popular event for the community and surrounding area. Jim also informed the club that our contract with Melrose Pyrotechnics will continue for one more year.
The Optimist Board of Directors will meet on Tuesday, July 27th at 7:00 am in the Community Room of the People’s Bank. The meetings in August will be on the 12th & 26th. The Optimist Club always welcomes vis- itors and/or guests at any of our regular meetings.
