CHRISTIAN COUNTY — The Christian County Sheriff’s Office is investigat- ing a traffic crashon Illinois Route 29 north of Pana, which resulted in the death of a 78-year-old Pana resi- dent, James A. Emerick.
As reported in Monday’s Breeze-Courier, on Sunday at 7:44 A.M., Christian County 911 received call reporting a single vehicle crash on IL Rt. 29 at approx- imately 2300 East Road.
Evidence at the scene indicated that Mr. Emerick was traveling northbound in a 2007 Chevrolet. Just south of 2300E Rd., Mr. Emerick drove off the roadway enter- ing the ditch. He then trav- eled approximately 1,000 feet parallel to the north- bound lane crossing over 2300E, eventually striking a ditch embankment causing the vehicle to overturn. The vehicle came to rest on its top facing south.
Mr. Emerick was transported to St. John’s Hospital, Springfield by Pana Ambulance. Mr. Emerick later died in St. John’s Hospital.
The investigation is ongoing with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Christian County Coroner, and Sangamon County Coroner.
