The Blue Mound Festival will take place in Beautiful Wise Park on August 12, 13, and 14. this is a family-friendly event that started in 1910 and, despite wars and COVID, will continue to celebrate the 150 years plus one since the found- ing of Blue Mound. Each year, this is a homecoming for families, class reunions, great food, and fantastic fellowship.
Each evening and Saturday afternoon there will be concessions, inflatables, an escape room, and our two cards for a quarter Bingo. The theme for this year is “150 years Plus One of Adding Color to Illinois.”
Our activities will include:
ENTERTAINMNET
Thursday at 6:15, the introduction of our Grand Marshall followed by the Remnant Worship Band. At 7:00 William Mitchell, with help from volunteers, will demonstrate his Hypnotist skills. On Friday night, Brian Free and Assurance will provide Gospel music at 7:00. On Saturday at 7:30, Structural Sounds will be playing in the amphitheater. Most of these band members were formerly with the Veggies. Each night there will a DJ play- ing in the pavilion following the entertainment for youth of all ages.
LIONS CLUB GOLF OUTING
There will be a 7:30 shotgun start on Friday for a two-man scramble at Moweaqua Golf Course. To enter, contact Lydell Kallenbach at (217) 433- 5262.
YOUTH ACTIVITIES
10:00 am the youth games will take place Friday at the Blue Mound Community Center south yard. Also come prepared to get were with a special “cool down” courtesy of the Blue Mound Fire Department. For additional information, contact
Julie Trimble at (217) 620-4066. On Saturday afternoon there will be a “Tot Rod” pedal pull competition in the Bingo area provided by Paull Callan. Registration begins at 2:00 with a 2:30 start.
PARADE
The parade will leave from the Meridian Elementary parking lot at 11:00 on Saturday and follow the normal parade routes on Lewis to Niles to St. Marie streets and back to the school. Parade entries should be parade ready at 10:00 for the judging. For information, contact Neysa Downs at (217) 972-3321.
CORN HOLE
This will be the first annual Corn Hole Bag Toss starting Saturday at 2:00 in the amphitheater. To enter your team, contact Levi Hedges at (217) 412-2701.
YES – FINE FOOD!
As well as our many local vendors, the annual Char-broiled Pork Chop Dinner will be on Friday evening with serving start- ing at 4:30. Nick Buzan is serving this meal with Larry Allision cooking those delicious chops. Saturday evening, the Ritter Family, with help, will be serving open kettle Fried Chicken with a 4:00 start. All of the meals can be finished off with Homemade Ice Cream and cake served by the First Christian Church of Blue Mound. Each evening, pie and coffee will be served in the Methodist Church next to the park.
SUNDAY
There will be no community worship this year, but everyone is encouraged to attend our five local churches. At 11:00 the Fireman will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers at the park for a donation.
