TAYLORVILLE — The boys high school golf season got underway Thursday with the Taylorville Open at Lake Shore Golf Course. Mt. Zion came out on top by one stoke over Williamsville, 335-336.
The Tornadoes, with a score of 414, were ninth.
Jacksonville finished third, 341 and Charleston was fourth, 353. Hillsboro rounded out the top five with a score of 364.
Brady Kaufman of Jacksonville was the medalist with an 18-hole total of 70. He was eight strokes better than second place Jack Driscoll of Mt. Zion with a 78. Williamsville’s Carson Conklin was third with a round of 79. Mt. Zion had three golfers in the top 10 finishers.
Best score for the Tornadoes went to Ryan Johnson with a 92. Briar Dempsey had a 95 and Bryce Friedrich finished with a 110. Grant Buschon and Brandon Hefner had 119 and 127, respectively.
