Robert Paul Fisher

February 6, 1929  — August 25, 2021 

Robert Paul Fisher, 92, of Mt. Auburn, passed away at 11:53 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Bob was born February 6, 1929 in Illiopolis, the son of Paul and Alma (Stelzriede) Fisher. He graduated from Mt. Auburn High School in 1947, and went on to proudly serve our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bob grew up on a farm, and continued his love of farming by working as a farmhand for the greater part of his life. He also worked at Mueller Co. in Decatur for 33 years before retiring.

Bob married Shirley R. Markwell at the Mt. Auburn Methodist Church in 1957, and they enjoyed over 64 years of marriage. He was a member of the Mt. Auburn Methodist Church, American Legion Post #73, and the V.F.W. Post #4495. Bob enjoyed NASCAR, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and above all, a family man. His world revolved around his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Judith Marie Fisher; step-son, Daniel Shafer; great grandson, Koty Cook; brother, Gene Fisher; sister, Patsy Willoughby; and niece, Laura Anderson.

Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley R. Fisher of Mt. Auburn; son, Kenneth (wife, Tineal) Fisher of Taylorville; daughters, Debra Fisher-Knowles of Mt. Auburn, Sandra (husband, Anthony) Gudausky of Harristown, and Michelle (husband, Michael) Abbott of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren, Christopher, David, and Shawn Fisher, Crystal Cook Young, Kent Cook, Jasmine Gregg, Melissa Carey, Ivy Knowles, Jennifer, Christina, and Jessica Stephens, and Alisha Abbott-Yoch; 22 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Richard Fisher of Mt. Auburn, and Paula Anderson of Westerville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Marilyn Fisher of Taylorville; and many nieces and nephews.

The visitation was held Saturday, August 27, 2021 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home in Taylorville. 

A private graveside ceremony with military honors will be held at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, with Pastor Diwan V. Tiwade officiating.

    Paula , we are so sorry to hear of the passing of your brother . Although we never got to meet him , he sounds like he was such an amazing man .
