Rochester outlasts Tornadoes in volleyball action

Thursday’s volleyball matchup in Rochester featured the battle of Route 29 as the Taylorville
Tornadoes took on the Rockets. The game felt like a tug of war as the match went to three sets and Taylorville coming up on the short end, 28-30, 20- 25.
The players were all warmed up and the student sections actually starting to bark at each other the match began. The Tornadoes get things going with a few points. Going up and maintaining that lead, with players Meghan Dennis and Sam Logue getting 5 digs each.
There were hard hits by both teams but the Rockets took change late. Catching up and with the game tied at 25.
Taylorville got great passing from senior Summer Brandis kept the Tornadoes in it. She finished the match with 24 assists.
But in the end, the Rockets took a grueling game 1, 28-30.
In the second game, Rochester got off to a good start and the Tornadoes started off slowly. However, they were able to fight their way back. Sophomore Elle Richards (9 kills) and sen- ior Hannah Clayton (8 kills) help with some annihilating kills and the Tornadoes would come as close as 15- 18.
Rochester was able to maintain the lead and the Tornadoes called a time- out trailing, 18-22, but they were unable to stem the tide. maintained their dominance and Taylorville was on the short end of a 20-25 score in game two. It was an emotion draining contest, but the Tornadoes will regroup and find themselves playing in the Mattoon Invitational on Saturday. The tournament begins with games at 8:00 a.m. and continues throughout the day.
