Pana Panthers conqueror Hillsboro Hiltoppers, 42-7, Saturday

HILLSBORO- The Pana Panthers dominated the host Hillsboro Hilltoppers in a South Central Conference match-up Saturday afternoon, scoring 28 unanswered points in the first quarter alone and cruised to a 42-7 win. Pana improves to 2-0 on the season.

Junior quarterback Max Lynch threw for 263 yards and five touchdowns in the rout. He also gained 41 yards rushing was the team’s top rusher. Lynch was 7-of-13 and threw one interception. Pana’s senior quarterback, Carter Hocq, only completed one pass – but it was good for a 66- yard touchdown to Haden Stark. Lynch also hit the junior Stark with another touchdown bomb which covered 82 yards.

The Panthers had a total of 329 yards through the air and another 98 rushing for a total of 427 yards total offense.

Stark ended up with 152 yards receiving on three catches and two touchdowns. Ace Armstrong, Kyle Kuhn and Evan Swisher each caught a touchdown pass.

In rushing, following Lynch was Austin Henschen with 25 yards on four carries and Zaibry Russell with 18 yards on four tries.

Defensively, Pana was led by Swisher with 13 tackles and Kuhn had 10. Connor McGlauchlen made seven tackles.

Pana takes its undefeated record into Friday night’s action as the Gillespie Miners comes to Brummett Field in Pana. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
