ELGIN — The Taylorville football team traveled 3-1/2 hours to Elgin on Saturday, Sept. 4, to take on the St. Edwards Greenwave for their first away game of the year. The Tornadoes could not be contained and they beat St. Edwards, 26-14.

Football games can be managed by the defense, running back and sometimes even special teams. This game was undoubtedly man- aged by the quarterback Kameren Heimsness. Commanding his offense with both his arm and legs, the senior attributed 256 total yards of offense. He carried the ball for 134 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. One of those touch- downs was a 48-yard QB keeper on the opening play of the fourth quarter.

12 passes for 122 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown to senior Joe Lyons. Participating in the air for the Tornadoes the senior wide out caught 4 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.

The duo have known each other since kindergarten so their connection runs deep. Maintaining their dominance the defense only allowed the Greenwave to score twice. Never giving up the lead in the contest. The win pushes the Tornado season record to 2- 0. Going back to the normal Friday night football schedule next week Taylorville will travel to Mattoon for the conference game.
