The Taylorville Tornado volleyball team took the championship of the Mattoon Invitational Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 4. Membersx of the team are, in front from left, Abby Heberling, Summer Brandis, Kennedie Cearlock, Samantha Logue, Sophie Mizeur and Meghan Dennis. In back, Head Coach Kim Peabody, Emma Pennock, Hannah Clayton, Mazie Flemming, Abbie Clayton, Elle Richards and Assistant Coach Matt Peabody.

MATTOON — The Tornado Volleyball team took place in the Mattoon Invitational starting Saturday morning. The team remained undefeated throughout the day.
Beating whatever teams came their way. Including Heyworth, Warrensburg and Neoga in pool play, Tayloville and Pana played one another in the semi-final match. The match went all the way to three games with Taylorville being victorious 16-25, 25-23 and 15-8.
As for the championship, it was Taylorville against the home team Mattoon. Taylorville would take the title in two games, 25-24 (score cap), 25-17.
Seiniors Summer Brandis and Hannah Clayton were named to the All- Tournement Team. Brandis had 105 assists and Clayton earned 38 kills.
In pool play action, the Tornadoes beat Heyworth, 25-18, 25-16. Then, Warrensburg by the scores or 25-20, 25-18. In the final game of pool play, Taylorville beat Neoga 25-18, 25-14.
The only match to go all three sets for the Tornadoes was the Pana set.
For their next game, the Tornadoes will host the Effingham Flaming Hearts.
This match will resume inter-conference play tonight at home.
