Jillian Hamilton and Kiley Ladage Shelby Invitational All-Tournament Team
SHELBYVILLE — The Pana Panthers volleyball team made short work of their opponents during the annual Shelbyville Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 11, going 5-0 and claiming the tournament title. Pana only needed two games in each set to win the tournament.
Jillian Hamilton and Kiley Ladage, both seniors, were named to the all-tournament team.
The Panthers opened the tournament with Charleston and posted a 25-13, 25-23 win in the first game of pool play. Pana then turned back Edwards County, 25-14, 25-15 and Marshall, 25-16, 25-12, to complete the pool play undefeated.
In the tournament round semi-finals, the Panthers dropped New Berlin, 25-21, 25-17. Pana faced Marshall once again in the championship match and posted a 25-19, 25-11 win.
For the tournament, Hamilton made 39 kills with 38 digs. She made 7 blocks at the net and regis- tered 18 service points. Ladage got 11 kills to go with 38 digs. She had 3 blocks and 5 service points.
Lainey Hicks pounded 27 kills and made a dozen blocks. She served 29 points with 27 digs. Rachel Holthaus dished out 68 assists with 38 service points and 29 digs. Chloe Ashcraft recorded 17 kills and 35 service points. Seven of them were aces.
Pana has a 12-3 overall record and return to regu- lar season play Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, when they travel to Piasa for a South Central Conference match with the Southwestern Birds.
