TAYLORVILLE — School board President David Driskell and Board Secretary Sarah Van Huss have resigned from the Taylorville school board. This was announced at last night’s meeting, however, a reason for resignation was not given. The board conducted the meeting with only 5 members.
The board voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Ronald Mizer as the interim president and Jennifer Norris as the interim secretary. The school board will be posting these vacancies. Applications for the positions are due by September 21, 2021. The board will have a special meeting on September 29, 2021 to fill those positions.
Yesterday afternoon, between the two churches on Market Street, a student was struck by a vehicle leaving Memorial School. The accident was not on school property. The student was taken to the hospital and is not injured. Superintendent Chris Dougherty said they are working on a safety plan to cut down on traffic in the area so things like this don’t happen again.
The psychological services plan, the consideration and approval of contracts for service: Independent contractor, Soliant, and Presence Learning was taken from the New Business agenda and moved to closed session for discussion. After nearly two hours of closed ses- sion, the board emerged and voted on the plan. Carla Mickey voted no and Brenda Patrick voted abstain. The board members also discussed student disciplinary cases in closed session. The board voted unanimously to expel the student who made a bomb threat at school on August 26, 2021, for the remainder of the school year.
The school board’s budget hearing meeting will be held September 28, 2021.
