SPRINGFIELD — APL will host a benefit concert Thursday, September 23rd at the Blue Grouch Pub as part of the global Remember Me Thursday® campaign to raise awareness of the number of ani- mals waiting for adoption in shelters and in memory of those who never knew a loving home.
The concert will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will feature Cody Lee, For the Love of Lennon, and the Open Mic Allstars! Tickets are $5 and available at the door. A special candle lighting ceremony will take place at 8:45 p.m.
Now in its ninth year, Remember Me Thursday® aims to unite individuals and pet adoption organizations around the world to be an unstoppable, integrated voice for orphan pets in need of forever homes. In the previous six years of the campaign, 180 countries supported the movement with hundreds of thousands of individuals and more than 700 separate animal welfare organizations around the globe participating. Candles are lit around the globe on the same day to remember the millions of animals who die in shelters or on the streets without ever knowing the security and love of a permanent home. They are also lit to light the way for the millions of animals currently in shelters wait- ing to be adopted. You can light a virtual candle online at www.remember- methursday.org and share on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter using #Seethelight and #Remembermethursday. APL’s shelter is open every day from noon to 5 p.m. for adoptions. The organization also coordinates cruelty investigations, humane education pro- grams and operates a low cost spay/neuter clinic adjacent to its Springfield shelter.
