Bruce Blanshan Brings 30 Years’ Experience to Organization
TAYLORVILLE — The Christian County YMCA has named Bruce Blanshan as its new Executive Director, effective October 27th, 2021. Selected by the Y’s Board of Directors, following a 5-Month search, Blanshan will succeed Chris Weittenhiller who stepped down May 2021. In his new role, Bruce will be responsible for leading the Christian County YMCA through facility improvements, program revitalization and financial sustainability as well as building and strengthening relationships in the communities we serve.
“During the search for a new Executive Director, we looked at candidates throughout Illinois and the Midwest area but Bruce really stood out among the rest. Bruce has a long history with the Christian County YMCA starting his career here and spending 12 years building many of the programs our members still enjoy to this day. Bruce will be leaving an 18-year tenure as General Manager at the Nelson Center for the Springfield Park District. It’s clear that with Bruce’s pas- sion for our Y and our community as well as his incredible experience in recreation, the Christian County YMCA will have fantastic leadership for years to come.”

I am very excited to be working with the staff, the board, and the community to keep the YMCA a leading youth service organization in Christian County.”
Bruce comes to the Y with 30 years of experience in recreation, currently serving at the Springfield Park District where he has served as the General Manager of the Nelson Center for the past 18 years. While there, Bruce was instrumental in modernization of their facility as well as building new programs for the community to enjoy. Prior to the Springfield Park District, Bruce worked for the Christian County YMCA as the program director. Bruce holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Recreation from University of Northern Iowa.
