MATTOON — Taylorville High School’s cross country teams were in Mattoon to run in the Broadway Bolt on Wednesday, along with 20 other high school teams. The boys team placed first and the girls team came in 7th in their respective competitions.
In the girls race, sitcking together as best as they could, the girls ran a tight race. The Goodman sisters jumped out front for Taylorville. Following shortly behind them was Hallie Smith. Finishing first overall with a time of 17:46 was Brooklyn Bender from Marshall High School. The Tornadoes Ella and Anna Goodman finished in the top 25 and under the 20 minute mark. Hallie Smith was right behind the two followed by Grayce Goodroe, Kyndra Durbin and L ydia Heberling respectfully.

The boys were next and the Tornadoes did an exceptional job of not slip- ping back and sticking very close together. The did not let anyone get around them as they passed as many teams as they could before the fin- ish.
Finishing first overall was Mattoon’s Brock Davee with a time of 14:54. Owen Morgan and Evan Morgan crossed first and second for Tornadoes. Behind the brothers came Will Turvey, Jack Chesser, Jesse Sloan, Brenton Good and, rounding it out for Taylorville, Hayden Harker. The seven Taylorville racers finished the Broadway Bolt impressivley in well under 20 minutes and a first place team finish.
