Jimmy Collins

August 6, 1933 — September 27, 2021

Jimmy Collins, 88 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 4:25 p.m. at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Ill.. He was born on August 6, 1933 in Taylorville, Ill. the son of Walter “Dutch” and Clara (Passoni) Collins. He married Anna Marie Tirey on December 19, 1952 in Stonington, Ill. Jimmy worked and retired from Caterpillar in Decatur. He enjoyed over 30 years of retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War. Jimmy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Taylorville Knights of Columbus, VFW Post #4495 in Taylorville. He was dedicated to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jimmy an Anna were avid campers and were long time members of the Illinois Avion Travelcade Club. They enjoyed their winters in Weslaco Texas, for many years. Jimmy Loved fishing with his brother Bob and anyone that would go with him. He enjoyed watching Cardinal Baseball and football in general.

He is survived by his wife: Anna Marie Collins of Taylorville, Ill.; sons: James Michael (Kim) Collins of Springfield, Ill.; John Martin Collins of Taylorville, Ill.; Timothy Gerard (Lori) Collins of Taylorville; grandchildren: Amy (Jacob) Law of Omaha, Neb.; Michael (Sarah) Collins of Nokomis, Ill.; Angela (Zach) Lancaster of Taylorville, Ill.; great-grandchildren: Riley, Aiden, Hadley and Ryanne; sister: Betty Jean “Betsy” McPeek of Taylorville, Ill.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Mary Lou “Midge” Schaub, brother: Robert Collins, son Joseph M. Collins and grandson: Adam J. Collins.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 10:00-12:00 noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation starting at 12:00 noon at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Monsignor David Lantz Officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with military graveside honors.
