Karen Sue (Smith) Dorr

April 24, 1949 — October 4, 2021 Karen Sue (Smith) Dorr, formerly of Owaneco, went into the arms of our Lord on October 4, 2021 at University Hospital in Mobile, Alabama.

Karen was born on April 24, 1949 in St. Vincent’s hospital in Taylorville to Lloyd and Bernadine Smith of Palmer. Karen and Roger Dorr were married on February 12, 1971. Karen is survived by her husband, children Stefnie Crites (Zach) of Ala., Joshua Dorr of Indiana, Austin Dorr, foster children James Moore, Ila Jones and Melissa Brown, sisters Sharon Skinner (Benjamin), Cinda Hayes (Don), Kay Brewer (Bob Uthoff), Billene Lynch (Dan), Mary Ann Buchanan (Ken), sister-in-law Brenda Weimann (Vince) in addition to many nieces, nephews and cousins. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, father and mother-in- law Herman and Margaret Dorr, brothers Richard, Robert, Ronald and Vernon Smith, sisters Delores Sledge and Theresa Hughes, and Terry and Paul Dorr.

Karen was a loving mother, sister and friend. She and Roger opened their home and raised and cared for many foster children throughout the years. She was a member of the Palmer Advent Christian Church where she was Sunday School Superintendent and teacher in addition to many other congregational needs. Karen enjoyed making wedding and birthday cakes for family and friends for years.

According to Karen’s wishes, she will be cremated and no services will be held at this time. There will be a family Celebration of Life in Illinois at a later date.
