PANA — Thursday meant volleyball for the Pana Panthers as they took on Litchfield at home. The match took just two games to secure the Panther victory, with the scores being, 25-19, 25-14.
On this Thursday night, due to a Teacher’s Institute on Friday, the Panthers- Purple Panthers match was moved to the Pana Junior High gym.
Pana served to kick-off game one and got off to a rocky first few points. The change of scenery for Pana did shake them a little but the slow start was squashed once they found their groove with blocks and well timed hits they were a force one could only hope to slow.
Pana, playing more aggressive in game two, lead to more “free balls” to be turned into points.
Senior Jillian Hamilton lead the team in the kills depart- ment with 9. Hamilton also had an impressive 12 digs. Facilitating for the home team was Rachel Holthaus. The senior ended her night with 13 assists and had 9 service points.
Litchfield tried to keep the Panthers down, but they couldn’t keep Pana from run- ning up the score and having fun while they did.
“With this group of girls, it’s never been a question of ‘Are they taking it seriously’,’” said Head Coach Greg Cothern. “Regardless of who is out their they are all good court friends. That allows them to play more loose than some.”
In the first set, taking some time to settle into the match, showcased a Pana and Litchfield battle for points with the home Panthers taking the game, 25-19.
The second set was a differ- ent story. Pana didn’t just win the battle, they won the war, stomping out any chances for a Litchfield victory, 25-14. The Pana-Shelbyville Invitational Tournament is next up for Pana. Play begins Saturday at 8:00 a.m. in both gyms.
