CHARLESTON—In the presence of royalty. Todd Moroney was inducted into the 2021 Eastern Illinois University Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday afternoon. Moroney accompanied by his Wife Susie and 3 children Maddie, Jacob and Charlotte, made the journey to Charleston all the way from Wisconsin. The Ceremony took place during half-time in the EIU football game.
The Eastern legend has a laundry list of achieve- ments in his tenure in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. Moroney was a standout runner for the Eastern cross country and track programs in the Mid-Late 90’s. He earned All-conference honors in all four seasons of running Cross Country in college taking both Mid-Continent and Ohio Valley Conferences respectfully. He is one of
just two cross country runners to make it to the NCAA National Championships meet dur- ing the Panthers NCAA Division I era. In track, Moroney was an 8-time conference champion including winning four straight steeplechase titles earning him OVC Track Athlete of the year for both the indoor and outdoor 1998 Track season.
Moroney shared his favorite collegiate memory. “I finished 1st and turned around and my teammate was finishing 2nd.” The retrospection brought back a swell of emotion to Moroney.
“Just seeing him sprint in and having teammates finish first and second.” The pair wasn’t expected to finish top five so fin- ishing the positions they did made for a stand out memory in his first year of running conference.
Along side Moroney and also being recognized for their decorated years at EIU was Devon Bissell, Reynae Hutchinson, Amber May and Betty Ralston.
