GREENVILLE—The Pana High School volleyball team traveled to Greenville to take on the Comets for
their final game of the regular season. Taking place on Thursday, the conference match only took two games for the Panthers to come away with the victory, 25-9, 25-15.

After the Pana freshman and junior varsity teams defeated the Comets, the varsity had a tough act to follow. But, being lead by seniors Jillian Hamilton and Rachel Holthaus, the Panthers were ready for any challenge. Game one, Pana got off to a hot start, scor- ing seven points in a row. Six of which came from the service expertice of Holthaus. The senior finished the match with 13 service points and 9 assists.

After going up by so much so early, the momentum of Pana allowed them to keep pilling on the points. Going up 12-6 due to great rallies, massive kills and sneaky misdirects, there was nothing the Comets could do. Hamilton ended the first game with one of her 10 kills in the match. The hard hit kill gave the Panthers a game one win.

The second game didn’t start as smooth as the first for Pana, but after back to back aces by senior Jadyn Bearup, Pana quickly returned to the domination. Bearup finished her night with 3 service points, 2 being aces, and 3 digs.

It seemed every Panther joined in Game two in some way. Hamilton resumed her tare with kills and service points. Senior Lainey Hicks and junior Chloe Ashcraft demonstrated teamwork with a powerful double block to put the score well out of reach at 18-9. Ending in anti-climactic fashion, the Comet’s error handed Pana the victory in game two.

In their final regular season match, Pana takes the victory with ease. They end the season with a 22-7 record and 7-1 conference record.

The Panthers will travel to Mahomet to participate in the Mahomet Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 23.
