TAYLORVILLE — The lovable Taylorville Tornado volleyball team played in their final match of the 2021 season Friday night. Playing at home they fought tooth and nail against the Normal West Wildcats. The visiting Wildcats proved to be just too much for the Tornadoes to handle as they fell in just two sets, 26-24 and 25-25.
Though Taylorville lost, the games were not without the typical rollercoaster of emotions. This time a packed Dolph Stanley Court provided for an atmosphere heavy with cheers, cries and the ever present laughter. Needless to say the THS West Gym was the ideal place for these Tornadoes to share their final game with their fans. It was only fair that the 2021 season came full circle. It started here with Shelbyville it made sense it would end here with Super-Sectionals against Normal.
Both sets were a nail-bitting scene to witness with the Tornadoes coming just a few touches of the ball to victory. The crowd had an intense feel and backed by Purple Reign it couldn’t get much louder. The players had smiles on their faces and had one of their best performances as a team. They wanted this win. Unfortunately, so the Wildcats. That was the sim- ple deciding factor of the game. Who wanted it more? The end result was Normal taking the title of Super-Sectional Champions right from the out-stretched reach of Taylorville. Immediately, the girls formed a huddle and com-
forted one another. Hugs given, tears flowing and a standing ovation throughout the gym it was the next best sendoff to this 2021 storybook season.
