Ethel Mae Fustin

Ethel Mae Fustin, 92, of Springfield, Ill., formerly of Chatham, Ill., and Kincaid, Ill., passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, Ill.
Ethel Mae was born on September 10, 1929 in Kincaid, the last born daughter of William and Ethel Somerfield Perry. She married Kenneth Ray “Bud” Fustin on February 7, 1948 in Kincaid; he preceded her in death on December 9, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edward “Ted” Perry; sister, Evelyn Hilton; and son-in-law, Richard “Dick” Jones.
Ethel Mae was a 1947 graduate of Kincaid High School. From 1967-1992, she worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation as a Personnel Assistant. In her retirement years, she worked part-time at Calvary Church as a receptionist and then later for House to Home. She was a member of IDOT Retirees group, and also volunteered for the Hope Thrift Center.
She was a long-time member of Calvary Church in Springfield where she was active in the choir, Prime-Time group, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed trips near and far; including travels to Israel, Rome, and Russia. As a participant in Calvary Church’s evangelism team, she wanted nothing more than for you to know Christ’s love for you.
She was a great mom and doting grandmother. She was known by many for some great Ethel sayings: (ìIf you’re going to be a bear, be a Grizzly!î) and was also known by a few members of local law enforcement for her talent at having a bit of a lead foot.
She is survived by her five children, Carol Jones of Springfield, Nancy (Jerry) Faulkner of Chatham, Ruth (Paul) Walker of Springfield, Ken Fustin of Port Orange, FL, and Ellen (Andrew) Soerens of Tomball, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Robin Jones Allen, Karen Cloyd, Deanna (Brian) Babb, David (Casandra) Cloyd, Ken (Anne Schaeffer) Cloyd, Julie (Brad) Cunningham, Lindsey (Adam) Kurfman, Amy Walker, Kendra Fustin, Lucy (Isaiah) Struve, Garret Soerens, and Denise Soerens; 10 great-grandchildren, Joseph, Anthony, Ben, and Michael Cloyd, Elrod Lowe, Arabelle, Annelise, Alexandrea, and Audrina Cunningham, Isaac Walker; former son-in-law, Don Cloyd; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation and Funeral Service: Family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Calvary Church, 1730 West Jefferson St., Springfield, Ill., 62702. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
