Panthers overpower Pawnee, 71-26
PAWNEE — The Pana Panthers boys basketball team erupted for 42 points in the first half and three players hit double figures in scoring as they completely overwhelmed Pawnee, 71-26, on Saturday night in the Pawnee High School gym. Pana’s lead was 25-3 after the first quarter
and 42-8 at halftime as they cruised to their second straight win. Leading the way in scoring for Pana was Colin Schmitz. The 5-11 senior poured in 20 points, including 4 3-pointers. Devon Peebles added 17 and Brenden Schoonover accounted for 11 points. Ace Armstrong scored 8 points with Drew Hackler and Brant Bowker
each chipping in with 4 points apiece. Kyle Kuhn scored 3 points and Matt McFarland, 2 points. Jacob Butler had 8 points to pace Pawnee. The Panthers shot 71% from the free throw
line, making 8-of-13,
while Pawnee got to the line a dozen times and made just 3, 26%.
Pana improves to 2-1
on the season and face Shelbyville tonight for
a home contest against their former Mid-State Conference foe. Freshman action leads off the evening at 5:00 p.m., followed
by the junior varsity and varsity contests.
