Nokomis man dies in accident Wednesday evening

(CHRISTIAN COUNTY) — A 31-year-old Nokomis man died as a result of injuries sustained in a Wednesday evening, Dec. 8, 2021, accident on County Highway 1 (Nokomis Road). Authorities identified the victim as Charles L. Cummings Jr..
According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:11 p.m., Cummings’ auto was southbound on the highway, just north of County Highway 8, when it crossed the centerline, colliding head on with a northbound semi tractor-trailer. The name of the semi driver was not released.
Cummings was trapped in the vehicle and the Taylorville Fire Department was able to extricate him, however he did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9:22 p.m. by the Christian County Coroner’s Office.
An autopsy was to be held in Bloomington.
In addition to the TFD responding to the call, personnel from the Taylorville Police Department, Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police and the Christian County Coroner’s Office were on the scene.The State Police reconstructed the crash and conducted a commercial motor vehicle inspection.
