Pana girls blast Staunton, 70-18
(STAUNTON) — The Pana High School girls basketball team raced out to a 21-4 lead after one quarter at Staunton on Monday night and never looked back as they crushed the Bulldogs, 70-18, in South Central Conference action. The Panthers improved to 3-0 in league play and 12-1 overall. They are riding an 8 game winning streak.
Pana was led by Anna Beyers, junior guard, who poured in 17 points. She made 3, 3-pointers in the game. Senior Jillian Hamilton added 11 points and Rachel Holthaus, Lainey Hicks and Ellie Kuhn scored 7 points apiece. Aryn Alde and Chloe Ashcraft each had 6 points with Jadyn Bearup getting 5. Kylie Ladage rounded out the scoring with 4 points.
The game was all but over by halftime when the Panthers posted a 36-6 advantage.
At the free throw line, Pana was 6-of-10 for 60%. The Bulldogs only got to the line 6 times and sank 2.
A big rivalry game is on tap for Thursday in the Pana High School gym as the Taylorville Tornadoes come calling. Freshman action leads things off at 5:00 p.m., followed by the junior varsity contest, then the varsity teams go at it.
