Joan Jean “Joanne” Vits

Joan Jean “Joanne” Vits, 91, of Pana, IL, passed away at 11:08 P.M. Monday December 6, 2021, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston, Ill. She was born November 29, 1930, in Lovington, the daughter of John and Ann (Remmers) Wood. She married Donald Vits on December 29, 1950, at St. Maryís Catholic Church in Assumption, Ill. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Alwardt of Hoopeston, Ill. and Kathy (John) Readnour of Pearisburg, V.A.; two sisters, Betty Burrus and Louella Harper; two brothers, Ronnie Wood and Johnny (Karen) Wood; 4 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joseph Vits; one sister, Laverne Spurgeon; one brother, Bobby Wood; and one son-in-law, Lew Alwardt..
Joanne helped on the family farm and was a homemaker, caring for her family. She was a member of St. Maryís Catholic Church in Assumption. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and riding motorcycles with her husband and friends. Joanne especially loved spending time with her family.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday December 19, 2021, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Assumption, Ill, with Father Pawel Augustyniak officiating.
