TAYLORVILLE — The Tornadoes girls basketball team hosted conference opponent Mahomet-Seymour on Friday night. Taylorville snagged the lead early and didn’t ever allow it to slip as the go on to defeat the Bulldogs 61-49.
The home team played a more all around team game splashing threes all the while still hammering down low in the paint. It was a huge outting for the freshman on the team with Kyleigh Heimsness, Mazie Fleming and Addison Tarr collecting over half the teams total for a combined 39 points. Sophomore Hope Kietzman finished the contest with 10 points. The juniors had a strong showing in this one with Alyvia McCullough with 7 and Kallie Havera finishing 3 points. Senior Summer Brandis rounded out the scoring with 2 points in the contest.
The Tornadoes didn’t look perfect but they seemed more focused on their goals and wanted this game. They went out, punched Mahomet-Seymour in the mouth early and ripped it right from the Bulldogs clutches. Friday night’s game against the Bulldogs looked like a step in the right direction for the THS girls.
The Jerseyville Comm. Christmas tournament will be the teams next appearance and will commence on Monday in Jerseyville.
