Robert Huston McQueen
July 6, 1952 — December 26, 2021
Robert Huston McQueen, 69, of Morrisonville, passed away at 4:55 a.m. on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
Robert was born July 6, 1952 in South Bend, Ind, the son of the late Theodore and Helen (McNay) McQueen. While in 4th grade, the family moved to Quincy, eventually settling on a farm in Payson. Robert worked the farm and for other farmers throughout high school to help support his mother and siblings. He graduated from Payson-Seymour High School with the Class of 1970, and went to work for George Keller and Sons, assisting with veterinary work. On October 4, 1974, Robert married Sandra Hibbard, the love of his life, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Quincy. In the same year, Robert accepted a position with Farm & Home in Quincy, and it turned out to be his lifelong career. After transferring to the Springfield store in 1976, he worked his way through the ranks to retire as the District Manager and Buyer for Big R in Springfield, Taylorville, and Lincoln.
Robert was strong, faithful, caring, and selfless, and these traits were especially evident to his church family at the First Baptist Church of Morrisonville. He was active as a Deacon, and especially active in the church mission trips, and with the youth. He loved the church kids as his own. Robert was always generous with his time and talents. He was an avid sports fan and competitor, competing in several different racquetball, basketball, slow-pitch, and fast-pitch softball leagues over the years. Nothing in life meant more to him than his family. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sandra McQueen of Morrisonville; children, Robert Corey (Katie) McQueen of Virden, Erin (Jeffrey) Willis of Middletown, and Bethany (Brittney) Gallivan of Chatham; grandchildren, Cade, Carter, Kayli, Crosby, and Adalynn; twin brother, Ronald McQueen of Seattle, Wash.; brother, LeRoy (Pat) McQueen of Gulf Port, MS; and sister, Diane (Willard) Franks of Millbrook, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.
