Tornadoes fall to Braves in Holiday Tournament opener

TAYLORVILLE — Tip off for the Taylorville 2021 Holiday Tournament began on Monday night December 29.The boys basketball filled event was capped off by the Tornadoes facing off against conference rival Braves from Mt. Zion. Taylorville took the match the distance going neck and neck all four quarters. Battled as the may the visiting team took the opening tournament game by a final score of 53-52.

Taylorville played their physical basketball with the two senior forwards Kamren Heimsness and Bryce Friedrich combining for a total of 38 of Taylorville’s 52 points. Friedrich was dominant on the glass as well snagging double digit boards with 12. Senior 2-way players Luke Markwell and Dylan Brown played excillent defense along with a few points. The pair combined for 6 points. Three-point

specialist Will Bitschenauer made two shots from beyond the arch as well as getting to the rim for two. The junior went on to notch 8 total points.

“Mt. Zion played a great game. You gotta tip your hat.” Head Coach Ryan Brown commented after the game. “Same token I’m proud of my guys but when it came executing time we had a couple possessions where we could have spread it out to six to eight points I think the game would have finished a little differently.”

The Holiday Tournament will continue Tuesday morning into the night and will wrap up Wednesday night. All eight teams were able to participate in the tournament as scheduled.
