Russell Keith Wantland

Russell Keith Wantland, 84 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021 at 8:55 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, Ill. He was born on January 10, 1937 in Lane, Ill., the son of Russell and Helen (North) Wantland. He married Dixie Johnson on July 26, 1957 in Lane, Ill. Keith worked as a contractor and developed Timber Lake Estates in Taylorville. Keith was a member of Way of Life Church in Taylorville. He was a talented wood worker, he loved his home and most of all, his family.
He is survived by his wife: Dixie Wantland of Taylorville, Ill; daughter: Cindy Nisinger of Taylorville, Ill.; grandchildren: Keith and Anna Tippett of North Carolina; step-granddaughter: Victoria Nisinger of Cleveland, N.C.; sisters: Sharon Pearl of Farmers City, Ill.; Marilyn (Steve) Florie of Goodfield, Ill.; brother: David (Ruthie) Wantland; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-Law: Brian Nisinger, brother: Elwin Wantland and sister: June Ellen.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 31, 2021 starting at 1:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Stan Pratt officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children 4400 Clayton Ave. St. Louis, Mo. 63110.

I lit a candle in remembrance of my brother, Keith. He was 9 years older than me, a self-made man who had an impact on the way I looked at life. He was optimistic, always looking at how things could be done, not why they couldn’t be done. He loved working with wood which taught him when to be patient so that the project would end up being something he could be proud of. He loved his family and would always call his siblings on their birthday and special holidays. He was proud of what he and Dixie accomplished and was very proud of his daughter, Cindy, and grandchildren Anna and Keith. We will miss you, brother, because you were the candle that gave light to us. Rest in peace until we meet again.
