JERSEYVILLE — Taylorville girls basketball team participated in the Jerseyville Christmas Tournament last week. The games were played on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the Tornadoes didn’t ever lose sight of the objective. They won all four games they played in and won the entire Christmas Tournament.
Going undefeated is difficult to do. Going undefeated in a competitive tournament such as this one is extremely difficult. The focus has to be there through every up and down while playing back to back to back to back games. That many games can wear a team out very quickly. This couldnt be the case for the 2021-22 Tornadoes. With the underclass Aubrey Kietzman, Addison Tarr and Mazie Fleming at the helm for Taylorville the confidence was overflowing. They went into Jereseyville and punched each team right in the mouth scoring a total of 245 points over the four game span.
Freshman Addison Tarr led the scoring for Taylorville. She averaged 16 PPG with 64 points total. Fleming (49 points) and Kietzman (45) were not far behind her. Freshman Kyleigh Heimsness notched 31 and junior Alyvia McCullough had 29.
Seniors Summer Brandis and Meghan Donnan had 12 points, 7 assists and 21 rebounds in the tourney.
Three Taylorville Tornadoes were elected to the All-Tournament team. Those players were Aubrey Kietzman, Mazie Fleming and Addison Tarr.
Tarr was also elected “Most Valuable Player” in the Jerseyville Christmas Tournament overall.
The next tournament for the Taylorville girls will be the Highland Invitational Tournament. The games will take place at Highland High School and tip-off will be January 15th at 10:00am.
