Billie Sue Butler

Billie Sue Butler, 79, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield. Billie Sue was born Aug. 16, 1942, in Taylorville, the daughter of Paul W. and Edith M. Thein Clements. She married Laurel Deon Butler on Sept. 22, 1961, at Pawnee United Methodist Church in Pawnee. Billie Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her son Ryan in 2008; and a sister-in-law, Patsi Clements.
Billie Sue was a member of the Pawnee Assembly of God Church. She graduated from Pawnee High School in 1960.
During high school, she was a cheerleader, homecoming queen and prom queen. She worked at the Franklin Life Insurance Co. as a data input operator before becoming a full-time homemaker. Billie Sue loved her family, especially her grandkids, for whom she would do anything. She loved celebrating birthdays and holidays with family and friends. Billie Sue was a great cook and mother-in-law and loved caring for others.
Billie Sue is survived by her husband, Deon, of Pawnee; one son, Tracey D. Butler, of Mount Vernon; one daughter, Lisa S. (husband, Jerry) Newquist, of Chatham; four grandchildren, Brandon, Matthew, Lindsie and Jordan; one brother, Donald Clements, of Tucson, Arizona; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Billie Sue’s family will meet friends at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Pawnee Assembly of God Church in Pawnee, with Rev. A.B. Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.
