(LICHFIELD) — Senior Devon Peebles scored
22 points for the Pana Panthers and led all scorers as the boys team upended county rival Taylorville, 58-46, in a very physical game at the Litchfield Invitational Tournament.
It was the 18th straight win for the Panthers.
Pana dashed out to a 23-11 first quarter lead, led by Colin Schmitz with 4, 3-point baskets. For the game, the Panthers rang up long distance 8 times. At halftime, Pana’s lead was 39-23 and entering the fourth quarter, the margin was 45-37, Pana.
Schmitz finished the game with 14 points and Brenden Schoonover had 10. Drew Hackler had 6 points with Max Lynch scoring 4 and Kyle Kuhn, 2 points.
Taylorville was led in scoring by Bryce Friedrick with 13 points and Will Bitschenauer with 10 points. Drake Howard finished with 9 while Luke Markell and Kamren Heimsness each scored 6.
At the free throw line, Pana had an excellent night, going 12-of-13, 92% and Taylorville got 14 chances from the charity stripe and they made 10, 71%.
The Tornadoes fall to 8-9 on the season and will take on Civic Memorial on Thursday, Jan. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
Pana, 18-1, will take on Nokomis at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, with the winner advancing
to the championship game on Saturday
night, also at 7:30.
