Tornadoes down Eagles to play for 5th place Saturday

Lucas Domonousky Breeze-Courier Sports Editor LITCHFIELD — The Tornadoes faced off against Civic Memorial for their first game in the 5th place bracket as part of the 2022 Litchfield Boys’ basketball tournament. Taylorville had no problem defeating the Eagles on Thursday night, beating the team by a final score of 47-30.
The last time these two teams played against each other was in the Bethalto Tournament. The Tornadoes took the match by a score of 49-38. They met again in the Rick McGraw Litchfield tournament.

It has been noticed, for the most part, that the Tornadoes don’t get off to the best start. It is tough to avoid simple mistakes but once these boys settle in they are a force. This game was no different. Turnovers and plenty of missed lay-ups quickly added up to hurt the Tornadoes but towards the end of the first quarter you could see them gaining traction.

Kam Heimsness lead the scoring for the team. The senior forward finished with 18 points. The two other seniors to make an appearance on the score board were Bryce Friedrich and Luke Markwell. The big man, Friedrich, scored 13 while the two-way guard, Markwell had 10. Also notching points were junior Will Bitschenauer and freshman Drake Howard. The combined for 6 points at the final buzzer. A couple seniors

who did not get a score in the game but played crushing defense against the Eagles were Dylan Brown and fan favorite Ryan Johnson.

The Tornado boys won 47-30 and will play for 5th place on Saturday against the Hillsboro ’Toppers. Tip-off for that match will be at 4pm.
