Pana falls just short of victory; Place 2nd in Litchfield Tourney

LITCHFIELD — The Pana Panthers battled the Mattoon Greenwave on Saturday for the championship game of the 2022 Rick McGraw Memorial Tournement.

Falling just short and placing second the Panthers lost by a final score of 63-57.

The Panthers and Mattoon took their fast paced gameplay right to each other. With the first quarter being even the Greenware turned on the jets and took an 11 point lead at halftime. Junior Devon Peebles lead the team in scoring for the championship game. Peebles finished with 21 total points. Just behind him was teammate Brenden

Schoonover. The senior guard finished with 19 points in the game. Seniors Colin Schmitz, Kyle Kuhn and Drew Hackler combined for 17 of the Panthers points. Pana also went 12 for 16 at the free throw line as well. The boys kept pushing but their opponent did the exact same. The score kept moving further and further until the final horn sounded with the final being 62-57.

Pana places 2nd with their season record now 19-2 overall. For their next game the Panthers will travel to Sullivan to take on the 1-17 Redskins.
