Panthers subdue Miners on Senior Night

(PANA) — The Pana Panthers boys basketball team pulled away from the visiting Gillespie Miners in the second half of their game in the PHS gym Tuesday night to come away with a 79-51 South Central Conference victory. It was Senior Night for 5 Pana players.

The seniors did not disappoint, led by Brandon Schoonover who exploded for 35 points, a game and career high. Senior Evan Hudlin added 17, getting three 3-point baskets int he first quarter. Fellow senior Kyle Kuhn scored 11; Colin Schmitz, another senior, popped for 8 points and

Drew Hackler, senior, got 3. Junior Max Lynch added

5 points int he contest. Pana led, 21-16, after the first period and at halftime, the lead 41-32. In

the second half, Pana out- scored the Miners, 38-19, coasting to the win.

The Panthers made half of their free throws, 9-of- 18, and the Miners went to the line 18 times, making good on 7, 39%.

With the win, Pana improves to 27-3, winning their last 5 straight. They are 7-0 – first place – in the South Central Conference with one more loop game remaining, at Greenville on Thursday night, Feb. 17, 2022. It is also the final regular season game on the schedule.
