Pana SCC champs; begin regionals Wednesday
(PANA) — The Pana Pan- thers boys basketball team are champions of the South Central Conference for 2021-22. They finished with a 7-0 record after the final conference game of the season at Greenville last night was cancelled due to weather concerns. The Pan- thers end the regular sea- son at 27-3 and will host a regional starting Saturday.
The Panthers are the number 1 seed in the Class 2A Regional tournament.
opening action is Carlin- ville (9) vs. Litchfield (8) at 2:00 p.m. At 6:00, the sec- ond game features Gillespie (13) vs. Vandalia (5).
Pana (1) sees its first ac- tion on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 6:00 p.m., when they take on the winner of the Carlinville-Litchfield game. Then at 7:30, Salem (4) is pitted against the winner of the Gillespie-Vandalia game.
Wednesday’s winners meet for the regional crown on Friday, Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m.
The Pana Regional winner advances to the Sectional round which will be played at Flora. That round gets underway on Mar. 1 when the Arthur Regional winner meets the Greenville Re- gional winner at 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday night, Mar. 2, also at 7:00, the Pana Re- gional winner takes on the winner of the Robinson Re- gional. Those winners play for the Sectional champion- ship at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 4.
