TAYLORVILLE — On February 11th, two Taylorville FFA members competed to earn their state degrees, which is a high honor in FFA. These two hard working seniors were also named Section 16 Stars. One of these outstanding students is Lizzie Schafer, who won Star in Agriscience in Section 16. This is a very big accomplishment and this title is definitely well deserved.
Coming to Taylorville schools her freshman year, Lizzie Schafer conducted a continuing science fair project to experiment reproductive technology in cattle. For this project she studied several different methods of reproduction and recorded results on outcomes. She then was able to create an extensive lab report including a literature review, materials and methods, hypothesis, and conclusion. Lizzie has had national success with her four years of science fair projects. In 2019 and 2020 her projects were named 1st in the Nation at the National FFA Agriscience Fair and in 2021 she won a National FFA Proficiency Award in Agriscience Research-Animal Systems. Over the past four years, Lizzie also has worked on her record books in beef placement and beef entrepreneurship.
Schafer has also given her time to several FFA community service projects. She helps with the Christain County Fair events, serves dinners and banquets, and is always willing to lend a hand with any other events. Lizzie is also Taylorville FFA chapter president. She is always willing to work with FFA members in the chapter, encourage them and be a good friend to anyone around her. She is also great with the officer team and they work together to ensure the chapter events run smoothly. While devoting so much time to FFA, Lizzie is also a big part of TommyTV at Taylorville High School and is National Honor Society President. With all of this Lizzie has maintained Academic High Honors throughout her time in high school.
After graduation, Lizzie plans to go to college to study ag communications. At college she will also be on the livestock judging team which she has also been on throughout highschool. Lizzie is an amazing part of the Taylorville FFA chapter and will definitely be missed next year when she leaves for college.
