TAYLORVILLE — Taylorville FFA kicked off 2022 with an amazing start at the Section 16 Public Speaking Contest. On January 25, ten Taylorville FFA members prepared and presented very well at the event. In the Creed Division, freshman Lilly Winans and Hannah Hartwig competed against 13 others in the reciting the FFA Creed written by E.M. Tiffany. They were judged on their presentation and delivery as well as their questioning abilities. Lilly Winans placed fifth and Hannah Hartwig placed seventh. Drew Mickey captured first place and Lane Wemple snagged sixth place in the Junior Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking area. These members drew a topic randomly and then was allowed 20 minutes to prepare a speech on the topic. In junior varsity prepared public speaking Chloe Grant places second and Abby Erlenbush brought home third. At the Varsity levels, competition was fierce as many seasoned speakers competed. Cole Paulek and Lizzie Schafer competed in the Varsity Extemporaneous area. Cole Paulek received first place and Lizzie Schafer ranked fourth. Lacey DeClerck and sophomore Abby Norris were Taylorville’s competitors in the Varsity Prepared division. Lacey DeClerck was first in the contest with Abby coming in, in second. These girls were judged on their ability to memorize their speech as well as being graded on their performance and knowledge of the topic. Lacey DeClerk, Cole Paulek, Drew Mickey will represent Taylorville FFA and Section 16 at the District IV Public Speaking Contest held in April.
