TAYLORVILLE — In early January, the THS livestock judging team was named the reserve national champion team at the National Western Roundup contest. A couple weeks later they were informed of the opportunity to travel abroad and compete on the world stage at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh, Scotland. This prestigious trip runs from June 21st to July 6th this summer. Six members and two chaperones will travel throughout Scotland, Ireland, and end in London. This trip showcases agriculture overseas as well as historical sites such as the origin of the Angus breed. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for students to compete at a world event, while also opening the door for many scholarship opportunities and new friendships. In order to help cut down the cost for students, the Taylorville FFA is planning to have some fun fundraising activities at the annual banquet in May such as cow chip bingo. This is the second time that a team from Taylorville has earned the opportunity to go on this trip and the community support has been a major reason to the success this team has had.
