CHATHAM — The Taylorville varsity softball team traveled to Chatham Glenwood to take on the First Round of the IHSA Regionals. The afternoon was filled with plenty of runs provided by the Tornadoes. They put up 13 runs on 9 hits in their route to defeat the Lanphier Lions, 13-2 the final.
The Tornadoes only needed five innings to get the job done on Tuesday afternoon. With senior Morgan Wright on the mound they were in good hands overall.
Wright tossed the shortened five inning game allowing four runs on two hits. She struck out nine batters while only walking one! Taylorville had four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Wright took the win for Taylorville.
The hard-throwing righty helped herself on the offensive side of the ball as well. She went 3-3 driving in two runs and scoring one herself.
Also shining at the dish was Haley Peterson and Meghan Donnan. The two seniors combined for two hits, three RBIs and three base on balls.
Jessi Wright collected six total bases leading her team. The THS sophomore had three runs, one hit and a walk.
Lanphier’s pitcher, Erin Klasing, took the 13 run loss and was never able to snag a strikeout a T-ville batter.
The Tornadoes will play in the Regional Championship this Friday, May 27. The match will be in Chatham once more and will be against the home town Titans.
