The Pana Sports Foundation (PSF) has announced the creation of the Pana High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
“This has been a goal of the Foundation since its inception,” Al Stupek, president of the PSF said in announcing the creation. “We are looking forward to nominations from the public and the election of our first class of honorees.”
Nominations are now being accepted by the PSF for the inaugural class of inductees into the Hall. A reception for the honorees will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022, in the Panthers’ Den of Pana High School at 2:00 p.m. Nominations for the inaugural class are due by July 1, 2022, with the Class of 2022 being announced by mid-July.
Nomination forms are available online at the Pana Sports Foundation website. Paper copies of the nomination forms are available at the Taylorville Community Credit Union office, 101 East Fifth St., Pana. A Hall of Fame Committee has been selected by PSF to review the nominations and select the honorees.
There will be four categories eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame – athletes, teams, coaches, and supporters.
To be eligible for induction into the Hall, an athlete must have graduated from Pana High School more than 10 years prior to the date of induction, and must have earned a letter in one or more sports. Athletic ability, sportsmanship, character, leadership, contribution to the team, ethical standards observed by the nominee, and any particular games the nominee played a special part in, will all be considered by the selection committee. The committee will also consider any awards earned by the nominee including all-conference, all-state, all-star or all-tournament teams, individual or team championships, any record or winning streak, any college scholarship, and college and professional experience.
For coaches, the nominee must have 10 years coaching experience at Pana High School (the committee may make exceptions as to years, experience, or unique special circumstances). Current active coaches employed by the Pana School District are not eligible for consideration. Accomplishments (individual or team) must have merited league and/or statewide recognition, as well as made significant contributions to the athletic programs at Pana High School. The
committee will also consider loyalty to Pana High School, leadership, character, athletic expertise, and ethical standards exhibited by the coach nominee. The coach should have made a significant contribution to their team and/or sports they coached, and the same ethical and life standards expected of his/her athletes should characterize the life of the coach.
The team category should include championship teams and those having attained record status. The committee may also consider ethical standards exhibited by the team, as well as contributions to the Pana School district and the community by the team.
When considering nominees for the supporter’s category, the nominee (person or organization) must display exceptional leadership qualities, character, high ethical standards, loyalty to Pana High School, and a passion for supporting the success of Pana Panthers’ athletics.
