TAYLORVILLE — Hugs, tears and plenty of laughs were shared at Davis Memorial Christian Church on Tuesday evening. The large group met for a meal and a Celebration of Recovery from any and all forms of addicting substances, hurts, hang-ups or habits. On this particular night Danny Lowis and Chris Tucker were recognized as guest speakers giving their testimony regarding their personal recovery journey.

The night started with a Memorial Day themed meal of hamburgers, hotdogs and potato salad served right inside the church. Laughter along with deep conversation ensued while everyone patiently waited for the group to begin.

Everyone migrated to the sanctuary to begin the opening message and spiritual inventory. DMCC Minister Denis Metsker explained the purpose and goals that are behind ‘Celebrate Recovery’.

“The purpose of Celebrate Recovery is to encourage fellowship and to Celebrate God’s healing power in our lives as we work our way along the road to recovery.” explained Metsker.

A few songs were sung then in flew the two men of the hour, Danny and Chris. They were there to explain Lesson 11 which was titled “Spiritual Inventory”.

Making their audience laugh from their bellies is something these two specialize in. It started out seemingly light hearted but all of their messages were powerful and felt throughout the audience. They gave their answers to several difficult questions and told a few of the stories that mean the most to them.

One thing Danny and Chris have in common, other than giving the credit to God and everyone around them, is they are finally enjoying living life. They are focused on using their stories to spread positivity and are not going to waste the second chance God has given them.

Celebrate Recovery meets every Tuesday at Davis Memorial Christian Church. With a hot meal served at 6, large group at 6:30 and small group at 7:30. It is a wonderful experience for anyone especially those who have been effected by addiction.

The Christian County Problem-Solving Court Commencement will be held Friday at Davis Memorial Christian Church at 1:00p.m.
