To the person wanting tight gun control in Sunday’s “Speak out”: Picture yourself in one of these medical facilities or schools foolishly/ proudly displaying “Gun free zone” on their doors, and a crazed individual enters, pulls out a gun and starts wildly shooting everyone in sight. Aren’t you going to wish someone could stop him/her? England banned gun ownership. They now have an epidemic of killings by knives and daggers. Our founders knew gun ownership was important because so many unarmed people down through the ages have been overtaken by those who have weapons, mostly by evil governments. Without the right to defend ourselves, we have nothing in the face of evil. Sadly, there always will be mental illness and hate. Our problems are rooted in the breakdown of families and birth of fatherless, “inconvenient” children. If you’re sincere about punishing the culprits, don’t look at gun lobbies—go after the men who can walk away from their responsibilities of loving, teaching, being with a child they have created.
