(PANA) — The second annual “Elks Cares” Summer Bash fundraiser, sponsored by Pana Elks Lodge 1261, will be held Saturday, June 11, from 3:00 p.m. until midnight at the Pana Tri-County fairgrounds. The public is invited to attend.
“We raised $20,000 last year through fundraising and individual donations,” Jackie Epley, exalted ruler of the lodge said. “To date, we have given out almost $16,000 to individuals and families.”
Distribution of the funds come through food and gas cards, medical equipment through Quad County Home Health, medications, heaters and air conditioners – anything we can physically purchase in emergency situations and occasional emergency housing for a couple of nights.”
There is plenty of entertainment at the Bash on Saturday, starting with a bags tournament. Sign-up starts at 2:00 with play at 3:00 p.m. There is a $5 entry fee with first place giving out $400 and $200 for second place.
Forever Sister’s food truck will be not he grounds from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.
“Grand Moff Band” is performing from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. with “8 UP” on stage from 8:00 p.m. until midnight.
There will also be drawings for gift baskets and a 50-50 drawing.
“Elks Cares” is indeed a community wide program with referrals coming from other community groups.
“We rely on other community organizations to relay requests, word of mouth and social media as to how we receive our recipients,” Epley explained.
Then, an Elks committee reviews the requests and must vote unanimously on granting those requests.
“I’m sure everyone knows someone whose life has been changed in an instant,” said Epley. “You’re enjoying tour live and out of no where you are struck with with a life-altering event. That’s where Elks Cares steps in to help.”
Even if you can’t attend the event Saturday, Epley invites the public to send donations to Elks Cares at 107 E. Second St., Pana IL 62557.
Donation to the Summer Bash is $10 and is open to those over the age of 21.
